Looking Through the Lens of being an HSP [my 2 tearful "aha" moments]

Feb 21, 2024

In “The Highly Sensitive Person’s Workbook”, the author Elaine Aron, asks HSPs to think about the past & try to better understand why they made the decisions they made in particular situations, in light of now knowing about the Highly Sensitive Trait.

She suggests to begin with how you reacted to big changes in your life, as HSPs don’t always do well with big changes, since those always come (especially for the mind of an HSP) with an overwhelming amount of stimuli!

I first dismissed this exercise, but then scenes from my childhood and early adulthood just kept coming to the forefront of my highly sensitive mind. So I began to listen. One of my big aha moments was around relationships (as an HSP). I had been beating myself up over continuously choosing the wrong type of man for myself & not manifesting the love relationship I desire. But listen to the video on what occurred to me after filtering this through knowing I’m an HSP!

The biggest insight I had in this life review as a Highly Sensitive, came when I looked at my childhood. I was lucky to have kind & loving parents, but then why did I feel so lost, so broken & why had I struggled with so many issues about self esteem, shame, rejection & abandonment?

Childhood trauma as an HSP is truly about HOW WE PERCEIVE what happened. Have you done this “Reframing Your Past” Exercise as a Highly Sensitive Person? What was your biggest aha moment?
